David Beckham out of the World Cup
He was injured today in the match vs. Chievo and he is set to miss the World Cup (Achilles Tendon injury that will need six months to heal, and at his age it may take even longer).
I must admit, I am a bit sad to see this happen. I know LA Galaxy fans and Becks haters must be yelling 'karma', but from my non-biased point of view, this seems harsh. Reports are coming out that he may even hang up the boots since he will not really have anything to play after the World Cup.

As sad as it is for him, and even though i do feel like him not being there will make the world cup less fun, I do feel a little better about it knowing it now gives Theo a chance to make the squad.
not sure which I'd rather be there as the back up to Lennon, but now Fabio better pick my boi.

Same here, I feel hella bad for Bechkam, people can argue he's a pussy, a metrosexual, or whatever they want, but the guy is one of the nicest people out there.. Did you see him @ Old Trafford, pure decency even though they got spanked...Nat_H wrote:I feel bad for him...
It sucks, he is one of those players that you truely see gets happy when he is in the field.. I would see Beckham score or get an assist, and you would see him get a smile from ear to ear in pure joy and jubilation.. When he's team(s) won he would get super happy, unlike some posers today just have a arrogant grin in their faces.. Beckham is quality, and his injury will mean a huge loss to England, not just on the field but the experience, the positivity, the moral boost, and a load of things that he adds to the team wont be appretiaded now that he's gone....
Last, like watching him lately, the guy has a "glove in his foot", expression used to say that all his crosses are not good, they are perfect, as well as his shot.. against Man U, he put a few balls on Inzaghi's foot that the Italian wasted.. His crosses are goldenn
Thats to bad, maybe he can participate on the England staff in some way though I doubt they will let him, I think he would love it anyway.

no lie, literally the second before this happened, i said to my dad
"it always seems like beckham gets injured or something before a tournament and there's some controversy with him." and then this happened. weird.
I like Beckham and I feel bad for him. I think his career is essentially over. he might try to make a comeback or something but this might be it

It's to bad about the world cup but I think he'll continue to play once he's healed, at least until his contract with LA is up. Who we should be feeling sorry for is Milan, I wouldn't be surprised if LA asked them for a heafty sum because of this
Beckhams basically the player that everyone likes to hate on and say he's over-rated but deep down really like him

Just a thought... After watching sporting news of CNN, ESPN, and Skysports, plus reading some online newspapers, the link you posted Mrbeankid, is the only one that has ASSURED he is out.. All the other sources have told me he is out for about 3 months, and if he is lucky he could make the worldd cup more or less....
I don't know about the credibility of your site, seems pretty reliable, and all the facts I've heard from my sources have match the ones your site says (achiles tendon, surgery in finland, bla bla), but my links and news tell me that he could make it to south africa if he is lucky... too bad I can't post them here, cause they're in spanish..
Anyway, I truely hope he gets better and makes it, even though I don't think its to plausible..

I don't think it's possible for him to come back but let's say he does miraculously heal up. He's not important enough of a player for England to hold a spot for him. Rooney maybe, but not Beckham.
I trust the one that was originally posted since it's an AP story, which is credible. (CNN, espn etc. all have the same article because it's from the associated press)

How long he is out will depend on exactly how bad the rupture is. He is having surgery tomorrow morning I think so they'll know more after that. However, there is less than 3 months to go and he will probably be in plaster for up to 8 weeks so I think its safe to safe he has no chance of going to South Africa as part of the playing squad.
I feel really sorry for Beckham as he would have been the first English player to appear in 4 World Cups. He would have gone as a squad player as he offered a different option.
I hope that is the end of injuries to England players. The current list of injured players is:
David Beckham
Ashley Cole
Aaron Lennon
Jonathan Woodgate
Wes Brown
Owen Hargreaves
Plus Wayne Bridge won't play either

bsc's right, however. The World Cup has never suffered due to the absence of premier players. It's too big for that. I just feel bad for Beckham as an individual and, to a much lesser extent, England. We know he wasn't going to play that big a role in the team anyway. It's much more pressing an issue whether Lennon can get healthy in time.

If Ledley King wasn't completely destroyed by injuries I'd have him for sure in that squad as an experienced centre back. +1 to that list. Any more?ratherton wrote:The current list of injured players is:
