Endurance work encourages slow twitch fibre growth.
All types of muscle growth require protein from the diet.
Regardless, you should always be "saturating" your body with protein every day so ensure your body has a ready supply of it. When you do weights you don't magically recover over night, the repair and growth process takes roughly a whole week, and having a good protein supply in that time is essential to getting the best gains.
im agree with klc123 you need to be eating or drinking protein all the time, if you wanna gain mass or muscle tone you should take it with in the first 30 minutes of physical exercise and i don't know how many grams got your protein shake but its not always better to drink the whole serving at once, the ideal is to take 30 grams of protein, read nutrition facts so you now which part of the portion is equal to 30 and if you mix it with milk remember milk has an average of 8 grams per 250 ml, so you want to mix like 20 protein grams with it.
ps: after exercise you should consume carbs too so if you can take rice, pasta, potatoes, oat, or something rich in carbs would be great otherwise you are using protein as fuel and not as recovering or building muscle material
