Team vs Team (Past and Present)

Post by DouDou » 19 Jul 2006, 14:01

It looks like the Player vs Player thread was and still is so popular. Hopefully the Team vs Team will be equally popular. The rules are the same
give your reasonning, pick the team and move on, no futher discussions under the thread. Open a new thread, or PM in case you want to do so. You can compare national teams with club teams, you can also compare teams from different eras, just try to be specific when describing the teams.

This is already a topic , it has stopped for a little while but maybe you can revitalise it and keep it going by posting here:
http://www.expertfootball.com/forum/vie ... 41&start=0

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that although there is another topic "club vs. club" it deals with mainly present teams and it is generally only club teams.
This "team vs. team" section should focus on comparing teams past and present and also national teams.

If anyone has any objection to having both of these topics open then PM me.
Also I am unsure as to what section this topic should be in , at the moment (obviously) it's in the players section which probably isn't right but then it doesn't suit any other sections as it is neither "European Football" or "Rest of the World" (it's both!) so if anyone has any suggestions PM me.
Otherwise we'll let it be.....
Without doubt.

as good as they were in 2002, brasil's 1970 team is the best of all time as far as i'm concerned. one word: pele. they also had some other good players (carlos alberto for example scored an amazing goal that year). ronaldo and rivaldo don't even compare, although i would rank the 2002 brasil in their country's top 3 or 4 of all time.

Don't really know about Hungary 1954, I have to do a little research. But I know that Holland 1974 WC with Cruyeff is one of the best teams to have never won a World Cup.

I'd go with '86. England did not impress me this year, although they have talent.

Brazil 2002, they won every game, and no real close ones, like OT as i can remember.

it's close, but i go with france. germany in 2002 had a pretty easy run to the final, whereas france had to play spain, brasil, and portugal, all of whom could have won the cup themselves based on their performances.

Had Romario been on the 1998 WC squad (Zagallo and Zico were so stupid not to include him), I would have voted fro Brazil 1998. But France 2006 is a winner because the team is by far more coherent.

brazil 2002. argentina had nothing special that year except for maradona. plus brazil won all their games and they had a great year and great players.

i think germany because they had kahn, a blossoming ballack, a pretty lock down defense, and portugal just seemed real lucky this year.

Holland 98 because they beat a lot of great teams especially Argentina, and almost Brazil.

germany 2002. the 86 team was good, but 2002 was still one of the best german teams in my opinion. kahn, ballack, nowotny, and klose all played brilliantly, among others, whereas germany 86 had a few stars and the rest were average.
