It's pointless just debating which names have been brought up over & over again.

The fact of the matter is, we will never know who is the fastest footballer unless we gather all of the nominees together and tell them to have a race. If you are planning on doing this. Good luck.

Even then, some may not be up to optimum performance.

i agree that lennon and swp can run extremely fast.
and having a low centre of gravity will also help someone to run faster.
good examples are defoe,keane,bellamy,roberto carlos......

BUT SOMOEONE THAT HAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH LEGS AND HAS LOW CENTRE OF GRAVITY CANT RUN FAST ASLO.

ie:can fabregas run faster than henry?(i dont mean fabregas has weak legs, but henry is too fast even he is 1.88m tall!)
what i want to say here is that speed of a person does not due to his position of centre of gravity only.gene and strong legs are also important.

in my view, the faster player on this planet is absolutely owen.
his lightning run from midfield into the penalty box in world cup 1998 scoring a memorable goal against argentina is TOO FAST!

That was 1998, this is 2006.

Without the ball, Martins, Henry with the ball.

The NFL has set up competitions where the best athlete's compete in races, obsticale courses, etc. Maybe someone should set that up.

Never mind, apparently the rumors of him running a 10.2 100m sprint are false, but he is still wicked fast and is overlooked usually in these player pace races.

henry can run fast with the ball in 1998,cant he in 2006?
or u want to say he is still too young to run fast in 1998 even he is already 21?

come on,owen is still 26 and still in his peak of football career, while he can run fast in 1988,why cant he do the same now?

I'm afraid that Owen's peak has passed him ever since his stay at Madrid. Now there are even doubts as to whether he will play premiership football again, due to the fact that all of his attributes that made him a great player (most notably his amazingly quick change of direction) will probably be affected by this injury.

i dont think owen has passed his prime.
lets see, brown of man utd has serious injuries before.and now,he is better than before and become partner of ferdinand ahead of silves in manutd.
injuries may break someone career.
but injuries can also make someone stronger!
and i know that owen will be the second type.

Even though it's reported true, I just can't believe it. I mean, check this out, no one in the world of football is as explosive as this.

That's a perfect video to show his speed. That was in the 86th minute as well. I don't think there's been any player in history who can rival that type of pace with the ball.

I not sure the ball will tell you anything but if you hit the ball hard enough so it go faster than you and you race to it you will eventually come to contact again. On the video, you notice henry only touch the ball twice for this reason for some 40 meters he has time to accelerate to his top speed without losing his speed touching the ball so many times.

EX.
Henry-touch--------------------------touch------------------------------------

1 m/s----------4 m/s---------6 m/s---5 m/s-------------8 m/s-------3 m/s

*These numbers are not relative to Henry acceleration whatsoever.

Yes in that video he only touches the ball twice in 40 meters, but that is because he knows he has the space to do that.

The thing is, when he has to, he can keep the ball close enough to his body that he is always ready to take a touch, and can still run at full speed.
