I think United should sell Welbeck

No one I talk to agrees with me on this, and I wanted to make a thread to see what you guys all think.

I think United should sell Welbeck. As a goal scoring or goal creating option I don't see his effectiveness. He doesn't score enough, he doesn't assist enough. His touch in and around the box always seems to let him down, his finishing percentage is really low, he's always trying flicks that no one anticipates, he overcomplicates things.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he definitely has some good qualities; fast, good touch, keeps possesion well in his own half or around the half way line, good at connecting with his wingers/midfielders, but so is Hernandez, and he can also score goals.

Everyone disagrees with me though. Every colour commentator sings his praises each game, pundits talk about his potential, fans repeat the same, etc. Again, I don't think he's a bad player by any means, I just think he's over rated and would sell for a big sum. Maybe even 15 million plus. And United wouldn't be losing goals or assists. What do you guys think?

Hello scottS4,

Firstly, thank you for the post. I agree most of the points you've mentioned. However despite that, he is a local player who understands more about the club. This is important for every player namely the first 11 to understand and appreciate the history of the football club which gives them the drive especially for example, when it comes to United Liverpool rivalries.

Also, his contribution is unquestionable and always make it hard for the defenders of the opposition team. Similar to Ji Sung Park. So, perhaps he is part of the United strategy leaving the others like Van Persie for instance, to focus on finishing.

In short, every player has their own strengths and weaknesses which ideally complements each other to form the right balance and chemistry. Hence, it is a squad game.

Hope that answers your question :)

his work ethic is incredible, it makes it so hard for defenders and opposition as he is so eager to chase every last thing down. not only that but he has a lot of great qualities for a footballer that can go unnoticed, where as hernadez for example, what he does on a pitch is obvious for everyone to see. he scores goals

Anyone see giggs' goal today Vs QPR? Welbecks contribution to that goal sums him up, always working, no matter what point in the game. He is useful to Man Utd, Sir Alex aint stupid

As a Chelsea fan, I must admit there are few that make more nervous than Welbeck. He's seemingly the whole package. Speed, skill, size and work ethic. I'd hate to see where he'll be in a few years.

Let's see what they do with Rooney first. I don't think they should sell him regardless but there could at least be an argument made if they keep Rooney. United need someone to chase the ball in the corners; a workhorse. Without Rooney or Welbeck, who does that? Van Persie and Hernandez don't. Can't win with just superstars (or people who play like superstars)

Mourinho thinks that Wayne has no future at Manchester United. But Wayne will stay at MU due to lack of options. So they say.
I'm a big fan of Wayne Rooney. I hope he gets more playing time
