Apparently he offered to stay at United for free.

I don't think it's that unbelievable, but them turning him down could be. Sometimes I think you need to hold on to players just to prevent competitors from getting them and turning them in to what you could not. This could be a mistake for United.

I thought city was the one that spent millions on world class formed players like Silva, Aguero, Nasri, Dzeko, Super Mario, Yaya Toure, etc, and united was the one that worked with young players and transformed them into stars... Haha if City is anything, its a team that pays for fast success and glory, and your making them sound like a patient team that likes to work long term, and i don't think they have done that with one single player, United being the complete opposite.... Teams like United make the players and turn them into stars, sometimes having to sell them later to clubs like City... I think you got the roles a little confused their, Rome buddy.

If I made them sound like a Porto-esque team, that develops players into great talents, or is some kind of destination for the misguided and undervalued, that was not my intent. :p

Obviously City (like my Chelsea) are in to paying for results now. But I mean, Hargreaves clearly loves United, and for him to go across town, it wasn't a matter of money or triviality, like for Tevez. United shut the door on him. As a Canadian, I know what it's like when someone shuts the door on Hargreaves. The CSA (Canadian Soccer Association) did when he made the hard choice to play for England, and he played his heart out and made most Canadians regret it. He may be injury prone and a little old, but I think he can still perform.

I like Hargreaves. There has never been an England player quite like him for a while now. A DM is a very sort after position nowadays, especially when you can do it on your own. Barry always needs someone next to him.

It will be a struggle for him to get anywhere near the first 11 but due to the Man City's huge ambitions to win everything, he will add strength in depth and will definitely get game time.
