It looks as if Ronaldo is set to call it a career tomorrow. We all saw this coming, but it's still somewhat of a shock that it's finally happening. IMO The best player in our lifetime. It's kind of sad thinking that he's done. It's like a piece of my childhood is leaving. Out of respect for fenomeno, let's turn this into the most epic Ronaldo thread seen on the Internets.

It's sad the day fans turn on their own players, especially if they support the national team. He brought them so much good and so much joy it's like they forget that over one tournament.

Those club stats are for league games only; if you look at his record for all competitions it is even more impressive!

Cruzeiro - Apps 44, Goals 44
PSV - Apps 57, Goals 54
Barcelona - Apps 49, Goals 47
Inter - Apps 99, Goals 59
Real Madrid - Apps 177, Goals 104
AC Milan - Apps 20, Goals 9
Corinthians - Apps 69, Goals 35

In total, a club career featuring 352 goals in only 515 appearances.

Silly haircut though.

Definetly the best 9 ever, and Top 5 of all time imho..

Cr7 can score more goals, than he did, and have a better average, but the Real Ronaldo will always be the brazilian one... Pure talent, pure class, balls of steels, two world cup, the best finisher i have ever seen... He scored goals in all ways possible, with his head, with his heal, beating the keeper, cheaping the keeper, finishing to a side of the keeper, running with it from the midfield, or just poking it in, in World Cups, or the Intertoto, against little teams, or against Giants like Man Utd in old Trafford when he scored the hattrick...

Defnition of a brazialian 9.... Very Technical, fast, smart, quick, etc...

Too bad injuries and overweight slowed him down (because defenders couldnt) and stoled from us some good years that we could have seen him beat goalkeepers and score wonderfull goals..

Almost every single goal Ronaldo scored was beautiful, and unique.... You don't see that anymore so much... Cr7 is tap ins, headers, and forcefull plays.. Ronaldo is a cut to the left, a stepover to the right, and a confident finish to the keepers bottom corner.... Every goal was art, every goal was music....Every goal was beauty...

Thats why he's one of the best ever.... and Top 5 of the world up there with Maradona, Pele, and a few others..

A traditional #9 is thrown around alot these days, but to me he is a traditional #9 and the best ever #9 in my lifetime. Such a shame about the injuries.
The man had it all.

Definitely agree with that. I'd go as far to say that had it not been for the injuries that slowed him down, he would've been THE BEST ever. Some of the things he did . . .
There are attackers who make defenders look silly, Ronaldo made defenders look downright stupid.

nding his professional football career at the age of 34, in a press conference held at final club Corinthians.

It was an emotional event for the Ballon d'Or winner, in which he acknowledged that the physical demands of the beautiful game had grown too great for him to bear.

"I've lost the struggle against my body," he said.

"The ones who are close to me know the truth: I can't go up stairs without feeling pain.

"I gave my life to football and made incredible sacrifices. I don't regret anything."

Strong, Not Silent

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter star opened this afternoon by simply stating: "I am not going to say much. I am closing my career as a professional footballer." Ronaldo went on to celebrate a "wonderful, exciting career" full of great memories and friends, before moving on to give the real reason why his later career was plagued by weight problems.

"Four years ago in Milan I found out that I was suffering from a problem that is called hypothyroidism, a complaint which slows your metabolism, and that to control it I would have to take medication which is considered illegal in football. A lot of people should feel bad about their comments on my weight: I just wanted to explain that, now that I have reached the end." interesting words by ronaldo.

Greatest striker in history in my opinion. Pele and Maradona were better, but Ronaldo is the greatest number 9 in history, and I don't think we will ever see anyone as good as him. As many have said, without injury he could have been the greatest ever, and I am a firm believer in that.

He had absolutely every single quality you would look for in a striker, speed, strength, balance, skill, finishing, shooting, dribbling, but most importantly he had the flair, that something extra, that makes him a true Brazilian player, and a true dream to watch. It's sad to think, we will never see magic stuff like he created very often again as the game has changed so much.

Real props to him, no one ever watched him without enjoying it.
