New list of top 100 soccer players

Post by flyhigh19 » 08 Nov 2007, 05:55

A new list of the top 100 soccer players to ever play the game is out. This time it was done by the Association of Football Statisticians. Pele is number one on the list. But there is a lot of bs on the list. For example, Sylvain Wiltord is on the list at 58, and George Best isnt even on the list. Also Johan Cruyff is only 5 places ahead of an Iranian striker by the name of Ali Daei who apparently has scored 109 times in 149 international matches against the great teams of Asia.

Here is the link to the list.

Ok, I'll admit it. I looked...I'm speechless

Garincha, Didi, Vava, Fontaine, Yashin, Banks, Kempes, Jairzinho, Shilton, Jennings - All missing.

Just goes to show you can prove anything with statistics - 78% of people know that.

2nd paragraph, 1st line tells you who its by...

The Association of Football Statisticians

and it should be considered an embarrassment that its actually an organisation from the UK - this is their website http://www.11v11.com/

This is also an article in response to the list in the Daily Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.j ... ats106.xml

The hilarious thing is that this is actually going to be published as a book (just in time for Christmas) and will cost £14.99.

Since it is done by statisticians, it was probably all based on stats. I believe this list tells you how stats can lie....I mean, this is a horrible list.

If it was by complete stats though, how come Alan Shearer isn't on it? [/list]
