So anyone heard what injury Rooney has?? I just saw his foot "bend" pretty much in the game verse Chelsea today.

I did hear though that he will be out for 6 weeks and will more than likely miss the World Cup. Bad news for England.

Rooney had a fracture of the base of the fourth metatarsal on his right foot. Too bad for England, they really need Rooney to score goals

AHHHH!!! this is the first i've heard of this!! i think england have some quality strikers in the reserves, but rooney is one of the best young players in the world. i really hope he recovers, or england will be in huge trouble for the world cup.

If it is coming off after 6 weeks, surely the cast will be off on the first day, and then give it about a week for rest/injections or whatever, and he could play some part?

Anyway, take it from wiseman:

I heard Owen may miss the world cup as well as he limped off the pitch after coming on in the second half of his game. Hopefully rooney can play some part in the later games if England reach that stage. We just have to rely on the likes of Crouch and Bent to get us there. :(

Eriksson really is not the luckiest manager in the world. 'Rooney will be out for at least 6 weeks', so chances are he is going to miss the WC.
As for Owen, didn't he say 'something does not feel quite right' after his return against Birmingham yesterday.
Rumour has it that surgeons did not put the right nailo length in his foot.

But hey, what can you do, it's football?

The World Cup is in about six weeks, so he should play for some of it, provided England qualify through the group stage without him.

I wouldn't be too worried, England have plenty of good strikers anyway, but I'll agree that it has taken a sizeable chunk out of their attack.

Yup well it was the worst day of my life on saturday. Firstly because we lost to chelsea 3-0. Secondly because Rooney hurt his foot again, one of his metatarsals or summit. To be serious England cant win the world cup without Rooney, he is our most influential player just like ronaldinho is for Brazil.
I think he will miss the start of the group stages but will be able to player towards the end of the group stages but will he be fit enough or playing well???
Owen came on yesterday for Newcastle and hurt his injury again lol also i noticed he looked so unfit and unmatch fit. Even if he does come back intime for the world cup i dont think he will play well. Possibly the worst weekend of my life lol also my college team lost 2-0 :(

We have Bent, Johnson, Crouch but to be honest they cant even begin to replace Rooney or owen :(

LONDON, April 30 (Reuters) - England striker Wayne Rooney could miss England's first two World Cup matches with a foot fracture, a sports injury specialist said on Sunday........2 games wont be that bad I hope.

Eriksson has said he will take Rooney if there is the slightest possibility of him being fit to play.

The WC starts in 6 weeks but the last 16 match wouldn't be for nearly 8 weeks. We need Rooney for the KO stages, if we can't finish in the top 2 of that group without him, we shouldn't be going

Even if he is missing, it doesn't mean everything is all over. There is plenty of ability and talent available. It's a huge blow to lose Rooney but its not the end of the World

The sports news were saying earlier that the reaction Owen had to his injury yesterday isn't anything to worry about

You know what, I've become increasingly optimistic today. I was awfully depressed yesterday having heard the news along with 15,000 other people at Bristol City. I was shocked.

But now, it will be around 6 weeks.

Rooney is a determined young player, so not a lot will get in his way.

We are lucky to have an easy group which shouldn't cause us problems even if we were without Beckham, Terry, Lampard and the rest to be honest.

So now we are talking 8 weeks until group stages, in which time he should be ok.

When/if we reach the final, it will be 10 weeks in by which time he should be fully recovered.

PLUS! I just heard yesterday on Sky Sports News that David Nugent (dunno which team) broke his 5th metatarsal (even worse than Rooney) and he was back playing after 6 weeks, and that he thinks Rooney has a good chance of playing!

Secondly, Owen had another scan, and nothing was detected, and doctors have said that the swelling was normal, so it's looking good there.

So cheer up England fans, we're on our way to victory. :)

Rooney didn't score a single goal in the WC qualifiers. Sir Alex has said today that he doesn't expect Rooney to be fit for the WC which gives that Swedish clown 6 weeks to think up a plan B.

Ashley Cole also came through about 30 minutes for Arsenal today.

We can do it with out Rooney no problem. Crouch and Owen up front will be able to break any defence, with Crouch's hight and Owens goal scoring ability we have no problem.

Also If Gerrard is able to score some more goals like the one he scored agaist Aston Villa then the Cups already in the bag.
