the way the czechs have been playing lately, i seriously think we've got a chance. i've written a ton on this already, but i really think the usa has as good a chance as any team to make it out of the group

To tell you the truth I know how good the US is, however Italy is just a class better so I would have to say that they take the first place in the group. As to the Czech Republic it depends how they will play, will we see the Chechs from Euros 2004? Or maybey the ones from the WC 2006 Qualifiers? If its the second case then Usa can beat them if its the first one then I doubt any team could beat them. Also US has to watch out for Ghana no one gives them a chance but they might end up being the tournaments Dark Horse.

I haven't voted on this but I believe the US can get out of the group. Czech Republic are a good side but I don't think they are as good as their world ranking suggests. Italy and Ghana are also useful teams. This means, they will all take points off each other. I don't think the team that wins the group will do so with maximum points

The US have the most biased world ranking of all, don't even start with that.

Italy is the best of the group, as long as they don't play with 1 upfront they should make it through.

Ghana is the classic underestimated African team that could ruin someones tournament, which gives the US a good chance if Ghana can steal points from the Czechs with a draw or win.

The way I see it they could advance like this:

US-Czech-draw
US-Italy-loss
US-Ghana-win

4 points, Czech's draw with Ghana and lose/draw to Italy. US advances.

I don't expect to see them advance, but anything's possible.

the emphasis wasn't on their ranking, it was the general fact that the czechs are overrated. the fifa rankings essentially mean nothing, and i think everyone here realizes that. however, the czech republic is currently ranked 3rd (i think), something that they deserve no more than the US deserve to be 5th. they've been playing awful lately, and to be honest, the US has a better overall team at the moment. if you won't concede that point, you've got to say they're at least comparable. italy are a good team, in good form right now, but i think the germany win may play a role in their overconfidence. don't be too surprised if they're the ones losing out to the US and the czechs. it really could go any way.

The Czech's haven't played great letely but you can't say that they don't have more potential then the US does in their squad. When the US gets players of the quality of Nedved and Rosicky then I'll say that they're as good, but they are comparable, I will say that. They made it out of group stage last WC beating Portugal, thats worth something.

The Italians have the best team for a long time IMO. As always, good defence, midfield should be better then all except the very best in the world. And the strikers are finally sorted out with Toni and Gilardino in there, Del Piero is in form and Totti is one of the best in the world, if he's back there's more positives. Aslong as they show up to win they should pick up a minimum of 6 or 7 points in the group. Still, anything could happen.

I think that the US wont advance, they're not that good. I actually think we'll have an upset in this group, Italy (not much upset there) and Ghana will advance. the Czech strugly now, they'll not do that good.

ghana have the best speed in the group, but that's really it. i can't see them getting more than 2 points realistically. the czechs are really all older players, past their primes, and not as good anymore. i guess when you have players like nedved and rosicky that doesn't really say much, but they were a lot better than they are now, once. i think that the usa have a great chance to at least get a point from that game. then if they can beat ghana, and draw with italy (or even lose), that's 4-5 points. the group will probably be won with about 5 or 6, so if they could get even 4, they would probably advance. really though, it depends on form. one area the usa will be lacking in is experience, which may lead to nerves. that's my main concern with us. we don't really have players like totti or essien or nedved, but we have as good teamwork as anyone really. i guess it'll take until june until we see which one is more important, teamwork or individual experience.

Listen. SOrry, but the USA will advance once again. It is the same coach that coached the team against a Germany that barely got away with a win in 2002. This time, our team has a lot more talent and a different style, MLS style. People ask if the US players are ready to play against european club teams, people don't ask if the other teams are ready to face an MLS-style international team.

sorry, but if we play "MLS style," we're finishing last in the group. we need to play a quick, precise, and powerful game if we want to get out of this group. we need to play to our strengths, and keep our opponents from doing just that. all 3 games will be close i think, but we really do have the skill to go to the last 16, at least.

How does the Fifa world rankings work?

I see USA getting through, but Italy will go through with all 9 points no prob.
