I am disgraced to call him my countryman. He is by far the most biased commentator I have ever seen, especially towards the English. I am by no means defending England's poor WC campaign. But..I am sick and tired of hearing him bashing England, calling them "not world class", "not good enough". When he said that in front of Steve McManaman, I was expecting the scouser in him to come out and knock that ginger the hell out. Just today, he was asked if he thought Gerrard or Lampard were considered "world class", he replied..."no".
Answer me this, what have Lampard and Gerrard done in their careers compared to Lalas? Let's see, they have won big time trophies with their clubs, they have amassed world wide followings, and they have become legends for their respective clubs. What has Lalas done? First American in Europe? Did he win anything? Nope...His credentials are soo poor, I'd rather listen to Tirico talk, at least he's a "real" sports analyst.
Man all of the Americans that are involved in the WC commentary/shows are sh*t. All biased motherfu**ers. Lalas, fu**in John Harkes, the lot of them. Bugs the hell out of me, because I hate England too, but it's idiots like those that give Americans the "WERE THE BEST EVAR" label.
On a different note everyone's pretty good with women when it comes to hookers... well except the sham-wow guy.
Yeah Lalas is very biased. He heavily favors the US team in any match regardless of who we are playing against. Hate to break it to you Alexi, but the US team really isn't as great as you hype them up to be.
But I have to say the worst American commentator IMO was Marcelo Balboa during the 2006 World Cup. That guy was a fu**ing retard and it pained me to listen to dumbass try and analyze a match.
I think the worst commentator I ever heard was Shep Messing. He did the Spain vs. Saudi Arabia game a couple days before the WC started. Jesus, worst commentary I've ever heard.

I think we need more Tommy Smyth with a Y, he is really entertaining. I love his little quirps. As much flak as he gets, I love his passion and excitement.
Alexi Lalas makes me want to punch him in the face to wipe off that smug smile from his face. He sometimes says some semi-smart things, but we don't hear it because we're still reeling from the ridiculously stupid thing he said right before that.
i agree we need more Tommy Smyth. Why isn't he in there? I thought Smyth and Derek Rae were great together when they did the Champions League for the last decade or whatever.
He can't be as bad as skysports spanish football commentators...they just spend the whole game licking messis testicles, even when barca aren't playing
Yea he is extremely biased. But he did play for the US national team. He knows the feeling of the players. He played in the world cup. Give him a break, hes passionate about soccer, and the US. Whats wrong with that?
I would bash the sh*t out of england too. they are garbage. So much hype, and pathetic when it comes to performing. They should be embaressed for their country the performance they put on.
I also agree about lampard and gerrard. At this point now in time, they are not world class. If you look at their whole career, yes they easily were. But not currently
I dont like lalas, but if you had the smae experiences as him, you would probably act the same way. He is rather annoying anyways.

You are aware Lampard just came off one of the best seasons he's ever had.
I don't mind bias. I can handle Jurgen Klinsmann, Ruud Gulit, Roberto Martinez bias because it's not overwhelming. They obviously favor their respective countries, but not to the point where it interferes with their views on the game.
Klinsmann and Guilit both have achieved worlds more than Lalas and they can contain their bias so I expect the same from Lalas.
