Chess or Poker?

Post by jdefoe » 14 Feb 2006, 01:49

Both games take real skill, but which game do you prefer and why?

Chess is a great game, its all strategy, attack and defence, I love it. But, I'm more of a poker person, I love the betting aspect combined with psychological factors and deception in a game such as Texas Hold'em.

What about you guys?

I like chess more than poker, i am in the chess club at my school. I like chess cause its challenging and its a game of thinking and strategy. Poker is more luck than skill although u have to kno what ur doin.

I prefer chess. Whilst both games involve outwitting the opponent, there is an element of luck in poker, which there isn't in chess. It's just pure logic, baby! :D

I prefer poker. It's more sociable, and in a way the element of luck makes it more interesting. Plus you tend to win more money playing poker, but I can't say that I'm particularly good at either....

i love chess. it's one of the most intricate games ever devised, and it takes so much thought. poker takes skill, but it's luck more than anything else. chess is actually very similar to football when you think about it, so i pick chess.

by the way, if anyone wants to play me on yahoo sometime pm me. i play at least a couple times a week, although i'm not so great at it yet.

i don't know how to play poker, so i prefer Chess b/c i'm thinking instead of some other games which require no thinking. and also, it's fun. 8)

i'm just going to brag for a minute. i work a lot with cards (tricks mostly), so i've gotten pretty good with them over time. every once in a while, i play someone in school at poker, cheat, and watch the money pile up...and then give it back of course. i actually have a method of drawing a straight flush every time, and i let the other person pick my cards for me. i really do like poker, when i use it for card cheating "demonstrations" (i tell the person i was cheating, then show them some actual card tricks usually), but chess is my game.

I grew up in a country with a lot of chess tradition. In fact, my countrymate Topalov is currently FIDE world champion. As a kid, I was pretty good at chess, won a few tournaments or whatever. Probably could have achieved more, but I decided to focus on soccer and other stuff.

PS. I'll take on any of you. Let me know if you want to lose... I mean play.
