OK here is the tutorial I promised. I apologize for the size...I haven't found a good technique for presenting it to you guys. Feel free to ask questions on the points I brought up, but don't ask me to do any more work on this. Thanks!

Note--This tutorial is for GIMP. Of course those who use photoshop will be able to use all the techniques I have demonstrated here (and more).





I'm not going to go in depth on how I did the text and border and the rest of the effects...I'm still a novice at text-making. Here's the result, feel free to ask how I did what I did:

Thanks guys...lol this reminds me. It's actually for GIMP. I'll make a note of that in the tut.

I used the rectangle select tool to select a 500x10 or 500x20 rectangle in the middle of the sig. To this selection I copied visible and pasted into a new, transparent layer on the top and bottom of the sig. I then just erased parts of the border around where the render was.
