Another thing which could make you stand out is being able to use both your feet equally well. Just little bits I've heard.
While I agree with you that fast players really do stand out, speed most definitely isn't the be all and end all.

Just think of Theo Walcott. :P

You've gotta know what you're going to do with the ball after you've sprinted past the defence- will you shoot, cross, take on the keeper...? Your speed of thought must match or better your speed with the ball at your feet :D

But yeah, speed is one of those fundamentals that will help you get noticed initially

I like that video :D Come to think of it, all the Nike videos are really good, great for a quick jab of inspiration. I hope Theo can hit some good form that will get him into the World Cup squad, and gets over his injury problems soon!

I know we have a few U18 people on this site so I'm posting some open academy football trials from around the UK.

*Billericay Town FC (Ryman Premier League) is holding open trials for the U16 and U18 academy. The best players from these teams will also compete in the reserves and even in the first team if good enough.

Trial dates will commence 27th, 28th & 29th May & 1st, 2nd & 3rd June http://www.billericaytownfc.co.uk/news/ ... rials.html

*Stevenage Borough FC who were just promoted to League Two will be holding open trials for their academy teams. No dates yet as they are still awaiting clearance from the FA. http://www.sbfa.co.uk/

*It can't hurt to try calling up non-league clubs in your area. They always seem more community friendly. Especially if you've played at a high level (county level).

*For those who live near Watford here is a local trial. Its not directly for Watford its for some community football team but it still looks good. There are chances to join the Watford U18s and be seen by non-league and pro clubs. Next trial dates are the end of June and middle of July. This is for 16-18 year olds or years 11 and 12 in school. http://www.watfordfccsetrust.com/docume ... n_2010.pdf

I'm assuming by Redbulls you mean trials in the USA? I'll look around. Where do you live? You can also try some PDL clubs. They are amatuer clubs that usually play May-July. The season starts pretty soon but they usually have open trials around March. Just something to remember for next year. You can play if your in high school btw.

This one is coming up very fast but I'd thought I'd pass along the info. Luton are forming an elite academy with Hitchin FC. The trial is May 12th you must be 16 or 17 years old.

http://www.lutontown.co.uk/page/NewsDet ... 80,00.html

Trials for Dunstable Town FC can be arranged by emailing the club your details. They play in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division (level 9) http://www.dunstabletownfc.org.uk/trials.htm

I"ve been seeing this site http://www.soccertrials.com/index.htm on a lot of clubs websites. Its some academy thing. It seems to have had a lot of success.

I've been posting a lot about UK trials but now I have something for the USA specifically Ohio.

We just got a PDL team in my town that have Dutch owners and the club is affiliated with FC Twente. The PDL team is forming an academy and tryouts are in June. The aim is to develop the kids into really good players in hopes of getting a pro contract or at least a college scholarship. The best players will go over to Twente in the summer and train with the academy side, they will also arrange european tours and trials.

Tryouts for boys and girls 12-16 years old is June 4th.

Yes. I think a custom title along the lines of 'EF's Trials & Academy Expert' is in order in the future. :) Real practical post that I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate and be happy to see.
