Hi, I am new to this forum, and hopefully I can give some advice, or maybe people would just like to read my story.
I am a senior in high school, and have been playing on my varsity squad since I was a freshman. I have gained several awards since then. My number one choice for college is California Polytechnic University- San Luis Obispo, or CalPoly for short. Last year, it had a great season, even beating high ranked UC Santa Barbara.
A few days ago I emailed the coach expressing my interest in playing for his school, told him what school I played for and the club I played for as well. I called him, and we talked on the phone. Turns out that he personally knows my club coach, and they will speak on the phone, and I know that will produce some great results. He invited me to an ID camp in February in which I really plan to attend, and it costs about $150.
I plan to make a name for myself and give the best that I can, hopefully I can get recruited.
This is how it went for me, and it seems as if its similar to what jdefoe has been advising as well.
It looks pretty cool to me. Give it a try it can't hurt, plus its free. Just make sure you spell everything correctly. I just looked a profile where a kid spelled friends wrong lol, I think it was just a typing error though rather than spelling.
The best recruting site for college that I know of is www.soccerincollege.com - pricey but worth it, many coaches get your information displayed on the site.
i have a question....even if you make it to NCAA D1, what if you don't make it to pro?? coz its almost impossible to get a major while in NCAA..so what happens?

Impossible? No it's not, if you stay all four years and work hard you can get a degree. Plus colleges require a certain grade in all classes in order for you to be eligbale to play so you have to take classes. It's not hard if you work for it plus its good incase you don't make it or get injured and can't play again. It's not impossible, I know guys who are playing soccer in college and plan on getting degrees, they know becoming a pro is slim so why slack on your studies.

dude, thanks alot man, coz i heard some people say that you have like no time once your in NCAA..however, id like to hear more opinions though
I will. I really doubt I can make the academy, but maybe. I really just want to get a feel for European ball. There is still so much I can (and need to) learn.

At least you get experience and you can say you "tried out for West Ham" lol.
another good way to get spotted by coachs and scouts is to go to summer soccer camps (like the ones at universities)..i went to one two weeks ago, and the head coach really liked me
anyway he said that if i can keep my grades up he will be looking at me when i get out of high school.
