Is Canada Up and Coming?

Post by scene » 22 Jun 2007, 23:10

Well after last night i was quite impressed with Canada. I was rooting for the US but towards the end of the game, even i felt Canada should be at the Gold Cup Final. I must say the Canada had a great campaign and I feel that it's only the start for them. No one has been taking them seriously considering only Mexico and the US in North America. I think it's unfair and Canada will seriously start being a strong competitor for years to come. What do you guys think?

It will take quite a while for Canada to become a serious threat in the world. USA is just now becoming a threat (somewhat) but still has a lot of work to do and Canada lost to them so Canada has their work cut out for them. I don't think they will ever be a great side in our lifetime like Brazil, France, italy etc. but maybe they will get in a world cup. :)

Most good Canadian players go to other countries to play. It's a lot like how smart people from poorer places move to areas where they can get better education, they benifit but their homeland doesn't.

As a Canadian, I have always wanted to see Canada in the world cup or something, hopefully someday. Hockey is still more of a priority here.

canada is going to get back into the world cup in the next three. My only thing is that they don't go out like in 1986 Mexico. We lost in the group stage not even getting a goal. I was not alive to see but there is somehting to build on.

the world cup in the further is as good as ours(in like 25 to 30 years)just from this years gold cup team and U20.

Did you see that offsides call in the end. Canada got robbed. However, you can't say that Canada deserved to win, United States did create more chances and if Donavan didn't completely miss that it wouldn't of been a contest.

canada got robbed and ya you can say canada deserved to win we may not have had as many chances but the ones we had were great.

If you were going for the USA how could you support a team a dive's and the number one worst one is Donavan who a easy left footed shot

Super robbed, the US can't beat us in hockey so they've got to be able to do it in some sport... Don't worry, our time will come! And when it does, peril! Peril I say!

We are up and coming. But! When we beat US, it will probably be in a tournament where we lost to a team like Guadeloupe or something like that!

I think that now since Canada has a MLS team football will grow and become much more popular. I also think having the U-20 world cup will help get more people (especially kids) involved in the game. It will take a long time before we can be World cup winning contenders. I hope that in 2014 we will make it past our group. getting a second MLS team will, again help greatly. Saying this, I'm not sure if you can call us "up and coming" yet, but we will be soon

Make it past our group? Christ, I would be glad to just qualify and maybe score a goal.

...and yes, we are up and coming on up and coming, Real_Zidane.

Screw that! Personally I'm hoping for a 2010 qualifier, I think we could make it, it's not a great chance, but we could. We're definitely up and coming, and we've got a really good chance I think of winning U20WC

i think it depends what you mean by "up and coming". If you mean in the CONCACAF, then definitly. i'm looking at Canada being a top 3 team in the upcoming years just behind USA and Mexico. if you're talking about an up and coming world power though....i'm going to have to say a BIG no.
