Long passing problem

Post by desire10 » 10 Jun 2011, 21:45

I'll be 15 soon. I'm a play maker, I'm fine with normal passing, but for long passes I seem to lack the strength. I mean I can't hit a big switch like the pro's due to my size and power, my technique seems fine over shorter ranges (and I mean short), but when I get to like 35 yards+, I 'stiffen up' because I'm trying to hit the pass really hard (because I know I have to), and I usually just totally fu** it. Will I naturally become better as I get older and stronger?, or is it possible for me to hit massive passes at my age and size, and is it just a matter of practice and technique?

tensing up and trying to hard lowers your power so we can start there. I'm not really sure if it's an age thing, we had a freshman from a local select team take goal kicks that went 50+.

Haha, no offence, probably your technique. You should be able to hit 35 yard passes at 15, strength may play a part yeah, but it's probably the technique thats wrong...

Please do KLC your guides/posts are always very helpful!

Oh, and I guess 30yrds was a bit of an exaggeration, more like 50 yards, I tend to stiffen up because I'm trying to kick it too hard. Will I get better at this when I'm older and more confident with my strength?

Here's some good videos to help your technique.

Thanks mate, but I think you should edit the half volley bit, as it says it's the same as a side volley pretty much. A half volley is like a drop kick, you hit the ball on/just after the bounce.

(By the way, it is a Wiki so anyone can edit/make changes :D)
