Here are a couple of topics that you might want to check out. If I were you I would lose the fat you have first and then start toning and strengthening your abs.

Just start cardio trainning. You'll burn every bit of fat everywhere, and you'll still have TONS of energy if you eat the right foods. Cardio is hard though so don't get discouraged.

ALSO, most people set goals for themselves like; I wanna run a 7 minute mile or 7mph for 30 minutes. Don't do that if your gonna set a goal set it to be the best in the world not a 7 minute mile. When people reach thier goals they stop stay right where they are.

Don't ever stop getting better and you'll never get worse.

i would do 5 sets of 50 sit ups/cruches with 3 sets of planks thrown in there. Fot the planks, i would do a set of 30 sec., a set of 45sec., and a set of 1:00min.

good luck

i think they are around the same. but the planks uses other muscles apart from the abs so if you want to tone all over the body plank is best

Interesting enough, cruches and sit-ups have been rated as some of the worst abdominal exercises you can do.

That's not saying you won't get the results you want if you work hard with those exercises; however, the bicycle/criss-cross is much more effective- rated as the best ab exercise you can do (even better than the machines).
