Define stamina. Following the dictionary definition of 'the ability to sustain prolonged stressful effort', then yes, it would.

There are many different types of stamina; this is important to recognize. You need pulmonary stamina to run long distances, muscular stamina to hold a handstand, etc. Doing lots of pushups will give you stamina, but only for the muscle groups which the pushup affects... Mainly the triceps and to a lesser extent, the core and biceps.

They improve strength, too, because the muscles develop. Does that answer your question?

Yes it does it is referred to as rome says here as muscular endurance.
If you can do lots of good push ups though it does mean that you have a good strength to weight ratio.

Muscular endurance is formed by light weight and lots of reps..performed quite quickly

Power Is formed by quite heavy weights with a good amount of reps but not to much. Performed quickly aswell

Brute Strength is formed by heavy weights with low reps performed slowly

To elaborate a little bit on Anymi's excellent elaboration... :P

Power, strength and muscular endurance are all connected, but different in subtle ways. Strength just refers to being able to do a lot of work. EX: Lift a very heavy weight. Power adds a time component. How quickly you can do something that requires force. (Remember high school physics? P = w/t). Muscular endurance refers to the "stamina" of your muscles to output strength and achieve power. Stronger muscles will make the output of strength easier, and, by proxy, allow you to perform tasks more quickly as well, increasing your power.

just wanted to add that while push ups do strengthen arms, they strengthen your chest more than your arms and a strong chest is important as it will make you harder to push off the ball and stronger in the air.
