Milk- Does it matter that much?

Post by Nevergiveup » 25 Nov 2007, 17:42

I know milk is a major source of calcium so i try and drink as much of it as possible but I just can't bare to drink Skimmed or even semi skimmed milk. I know that whole milk has more fat but does it really make that much difference to your body?

I'm lactose, but when I do drink milk (in cereal) I always get 2% cause skim milk sucks. It's not going to make that much of a difference, really(whether you drink skim or regular). So go ahead, drink 2%, or if you like to live on the edge, dare I say it: DRINK WHOLE!

I don't think it really matters unless you are overweighted. I personally don't really care how many percents of fat the milk I drink contains.

skim milk sucks. its like drinking white water.

whole is the way to go.
over in europe, they have the 3.2% milk, this is my favorite, because it actually tastes like milk should taste.

milk is great regardless. drink it.
you have to get your calcium and vitamins, and milk is a great way to do that.

Well I'm not over weight and I'm not going to stop drinking it. Thanks for all the comments. I can't believe how fast your responses have been. I only posted this a few hours ago. I am inn fact trying to gain weight. I'm 7 stone now and want to be nine by the end of next year.

Agreed. Skim milk is too watery in my opinion. We drink 2%.

I don't think it does.

I think everyone has their milk they drink. Probably because they start drinking it and every other kind tastes strange. I drink skim and I don't like whole milk or other kind.

It does make a difference to your body in a way you can't see with the naked eye. Over thousands of years our bodies have adapted to be able to process certain things, such as meat and vegetables which we've been eating for thousands of years. Throughout this time our bodies have created enzymes in order to break down certain foods.

By eating "new" (few hundred years) things such as greasy foods, candy, and processed foods our bodies aren't capable of really digesting it well\fast.

A case of this would be people that are lactose intolerant. Their body doesn't make enough of the enyzme lactase in order to break down the milk.

Obviously foods can have other qualities that are terrible for your body that's not visible but that's just one example.

I was raised on skim milk so im used to it, but if i get the kind at school(opposed to the different brand o drink at home) then it tastes like water. But drinking whole milk tacks on added calories and fat that you dont need in a diet, if you dont like skim because its watery then i would go with 2%.

When i was in Italy on vacation i didnt have milk for 2 weeks, i had to eat cereal dry :( Normally in my family we go through like a gallon and 1/2 of milk a day.

2% milk does this to you, just like it did to me.
