Yeah I went on a week-long trip this summer (what are you getting at, attacking my own conduct? I try not to be hypocritical). Governments ultimately owe responsibility and compassion to its people, Capitalist or Communist I agree with this at face value, but at the core, I think this is where we mo...

Quit bringing up compassion. That's not an economic issue. If you must know, I donate 10% of my meager paycheck to my church who runs various charitable programs. On top of this, I donate my own time to church/missions, and I fund-raise for & donate additional money every year to worldwide poverty r...

Example of relative poverty: 10% of the USA is in the bottom 10% income level, this level is considered impoverished compared to the overall wealth of America.

Dude...world poverty is a completely different subject. And don't say I don't have compassion on impoverished people. Anyways...I think your point is that socialism solves poverty. Which it doesn't. A better point is that the wealthy capitalists can solve poverty.

Yeah actually the USA isn't known for its poverty, because we have capitalism. You'd have to go to a more liberal place like the UK to see poverty

Great post, TommyGun. And, to klc123, I admit that I haven't read Marx (have you??), but I do know that four of his kids died because he didn't work to support them. "Why are you so scared of losing half of what you own and love, for the chance to give so much to those you don't?" Greedy, money-mong...

You guys are forgetting one of the key components of capitalism: enterprise. So, a rich kid could waste or squander wealth, while a poor kid could become rich, all because of the way the much or little is used and invested.

No, what I'm saying is, you can pretty much replicate how the Prairies were developed with a sh**load of marketing, and some moderate funding. There's a lot of land people can work themselves, and learn how to provide for themselves on. They can become largely self-sufficient, and they'll work for ...

I agree. sh*t, if we developed half of Canada, we could house and provide for so many... The key is getting the capital and basic tech/info to those people, so that they can provide for themselves in a supportive economy. I'm not trying to be some expert here, but I'm saying that you can't sustain ...

klc123, do you actually think that a significant amount of people in capitalist societies inherit great wealth, and never work? There's such thing as retirement, which means you can stop working after 50 years of working, and live off of what you have produced. That's a whole lot better than having...

TommyGun, did you say you pay 36% income tax? That seems exorbitant.

But if you "work hard" for your own property, why should you not be able to cede it to your own children? "Rich people" aren't allowed to enslave poorer people and force them to work in slums. This isn't Medieval feudalism, or the early 20th Century. It also seems that socialists are more in favor o...
