Honestly imo the problem is that our other major sports lack a high level of skill necessary to play. Big\Strong? You're suggested to play (American) football Tall? Basketball In these sports fitness plays the dominate role in winning. People don't realize the amount of skill involved in playing foo...

Your professor is wrong. Yes, that was what we believed lactic acid did, and what not but do the research man. Perhaps he simply hasn't seen the fairly recent (4ish years) research. Yes, NYTimes isn't "credible" in the sense of a paper done on it, but I don't know the first step on searching for one...

Exactly S4L Below I'm just referencing random parts as I re-read your post so it may not make sense entirely. :P I don't have the actual study, but lactic acid apparently acts as fuel rather than a performance inhibitor: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/16/health/nutrition/16run.html A 100m sprint whi...

Klc, this isn't a rant against you, but I'm sick of hearing "heart rate training" when the words aerobic training get thrown out. Want a better formula? Run as fast as you can for 30 minutes, or for your set distance. Simple as that, there need not be a science involved. Work your ass off and you ge...

Mostly likely most coaches do it because "everyone else" does it. It's not a bad test though. The 6-8 miles you do in game are nothing like going and running 6-8 miles. The 2 mile is a good balance between pace, fitness, and also mental strength due to the other two. Go shorter distance and the fast...

Sure, you can become significantly better within that time. Like I said, something like 3 days of more fast paced\turning\accelerating\etc and then 2 other days of between 3-5 miles for time should do you well. I know you want me to say some routine that *will* get you in shape, but sadly I can offe...

lol Pikey, did you seriously just self-censor the word pissed? :P Regardless, I agree with them, the whole notion of playing like someone else is bulls**t. What's the point? The second you do that it's evident you're not playing for fun, but something else. What is this something else? The hope that...

Contrary to what people think, the best way to get in shape for football isn't slow distance. Before listing options think of it this way. In a professional match they average around 6 miles in a game. That's 6 miles in 90 minutes. With a break in between! (half time) You can walk and cover 6 miles ...

There is almost nothing 1 week of conditioning will do to get you prepared for the conditioning. Frankly, I'd reccomend things like 400m intervals (60sec rest). And mostly sprint based conditioning for 5 days. Go on a few longer distance runs, but mostly just to get a feel for jogging for 30min or s...

How do you think we should know? Also, will what we say really matter? If you really want to, you'll do it regardless of what people say.
