Oddly enough, playing style has a big role in goalkeeping too. Personally, I emulate my first coach, a Scot who was short and defended aggressively. He taught me to shout, slide tackle (keeper version), come off the line, position, and communicate the same way he did. I picked up a few things on my ...

It didn't look like a knuckle ball in slow-mo, just a late-swerving outside curler. Still rated it as awesome just because... well... it's awesome compared to anything I've seen (outside of recorded professional play).

Great news for the Red Bulls, not so great news for Henry. He'll be lucky to survive his first New York winter. When he gets his France national team call-ups in '10-11, he'll be sent back to France to thaw out. On a serious note, that is great news for the Red Bulls. It's probably the biggest...

Suggestions for Goalkeeping Video

I'm considering doing a goalkeeping video over the summer, but I'm having trouble thinking of what to put in it. Here's a list of things I thought might be nice to include (all with me in goal):
1) Penalties
2) Free-kicks
3) Crosses
4) 1 vs. 1 with a forward and keeper

Any suggestions?

Nice freekicks, I've got two pieces of practical feedback for you. One, I don't know if you did this on purpose, but you're crossing over when you follow through. I used to do it, and I remember is used to make spectacular freekicks a lot easier but at a high price in power (not that I ever achieved...

As I'm thinking about it, I can see why you'd make this kind of thing for outfield players, but I don't see why it would be effective. There are two things it could improve, I guess: reactions and agility. Now, field players don't really need short reaction times for guessing ball bounces, unless ma...

I had a friend who broke his toe, and if I remember this correctly, he was walking with a crutch for a month or more. I'm sure there's info on the web.

I thought of a few more questions. When I was practicing last week, I was able to double my shot speed by leaning away from the ball (something I saw in a guide). I remember that at the time, I did all the secondary motions like using my opposite arm to balance myself and swinging in a straight line...

Dan Gosling might not be the best in the world as young talents go, but he deserves mention here.

Thanks for all the help. You will be surprised how far the ball will travel if you just focus on getting absolute perfect connection. So when you want to hit a ball with more power, don't think about hitting it harder, think about getting a even better connection on it. I just wanted to ask about on...

Exercises for Strength in Aerial Challenges

I'm 16, and I play goalkeeper (primarily). In a recent game, I was getting knocked out of the way a bit in aerial challenges. I had a really hard time intercepting high crosses, since I couldn't even get through the clump of bodies in the six yard box. I'm very light for my height, 130 lbs at 5'9", ...

Almoooost done. I could use some help re-writing the swerving lobs section though. Anyone? All I need is some advice, as I don't get swerving lobs a lot, and I can't really explain what makes 'em good shots myself.

Improving Dominant Foot Shot

I had a weird practice today. I've had something of a bad week for my shooting practice. As far as freekicks go, I have yet to hit the target from more than fifteen yards out. I got really frustrated today, so I decided to work on my left foot instead of just getting pissed and missing more with my ...

I've had the same happen to me, BJ. If you are between the man and the ball (with your back towards the man), then you are fine as long as you don't block him from anything other than the ball. If you block him from going around you, it's obstruction and a foul. Just swivel your back towards the man...

Your Top Five Footballer Muppets 09/10

Well, we have a lot of threads for the best/most exciting players of the year, but we didn't have a worst blunderers of the year thread that I've seen. Name the five players you think have made the worst blunders this year (not necessarily the most). Remember, were talking about blunders here, not j...
