My advice for 16-17 year olds trying to go pro

I feel that it is my job to give you guys some advice on training, and tell you what I would do if I were 16-17 again and hardcore into soccer, trying to break into a professional level squad. I can really only speak as a midfield or attacking player. There are lots of things you can work on to make...

Re: JDefoe- Some insight on technical skills

Hey JDefoe. :) Yep, that's a good way to look at it. Also, coaches tend to care more about tactical mistakes since they can direct/instruct you right there on the spot. I agree with you there. Like you said I think that tactical mistakes are more coach able but technical not so much. From my experi...

JDefoe- Some insight on technical skills

After taking part in some national training camps and observing high level coaches I came to an obvious but important realization. If you want to play high level football you must have near perfect technical skills. I accompanied a friend of mine to a tryout for a 3rd division team and I realized th...

Re: The Cadillac program for developing skill

Before I went to bed last night I was reflecting on my playing days...then started replaying all my best moments on the soccer pitch in slo-mo...It's amazing what you can learn from past experiences (good and bad) to reflect why what you did worked or why it didn't.

I suggest you coach - find a highschool team or something like that...You will learn so much.

Re: The Cadillac program for developing skill

Another really good exercise is to buy a cheap pair of lenses, and then tape cardboard to the bottoms so you can't see much of the ball while you're dribbling. It will force you to keep your head up and look for teammates.

Re: The Cadillac program for developing skill

try dribbling everywhere you go with a tennis ball and juggling a tennis ball consistently. You'll be amazed how easy you will find it to control a full sized ball.

Re: Interview with a pro player: Part I

You should always try to find the best players in your area and train with them or play with them. You will learn so much faster by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone

Jdefoe on Addressing weaknesses

Focusing on all of your weaknesses at once will drive you crazy, and not get you anywhere very fast. I suggest that you try to figure out the one thing, big or small, that hurts you the most. For me it was the fact that I believed I could dribble every defender, every time - and thought it was my ri...

Re: A winger, a striker or midfielder?

Gotta agree with Powell. Ask some coaches, players etc to list your best attributes and then choose position based upon strengths. Then keep building on those strengths. Good luck!
