Stepovers are not about speed. They are about tricking your opponent.
Practice dribbling up to a cone, step over the ball and accelerate as you go around it. There's no secret there. Just pick one move and repeat it over and over again.
Start off at a comfortable speed so you can learn the mechanics and commit it to memory.
As you learn how the move works, advance your practice to game speed
A few pointers:
- You have to really throw your body in the direction that you want your opponent to go to in order to "sell the fake".
- Once you are proficient, use ankle weights when you practice on your own to build the speed over your stepovers.
- In games, watch your opponent's footing and body positioning to see which direction they are leaning to. Do the stepover fake to the direction in which they are leaning, then explode past them in the opposite way. by Expert 22:00:24 Sunday 29 April 2007 |
