hi Expert, i was wondering what makes defender Roberto Carlos's free kicks more powerful, deadlier and accurate as he takes it and what postion/stance he takes before striking it 40 yards into the back of the net (e.g. how many step backs he takes and his angle towards the ball and the goal etc) thank you.
You don't need to be powerful or have strong legs to generate power on the ball. Notice how fast Roberto Carlos is and how good his acceleration is. If you can use your acceleration and your speed to hit the ball your shot, if accurate, will be very hard to stop. Watch a video of him taking a free kick and you notice how he takes little stutter steps and then accelerates into the ball. He takes about 4 or 5 shuffling steps and blasts the ball when he is at the highest point of acceleration. One great example of this is in the game from the 2004 World Cup, Brazil against Costa Rica. Just watch his feet and how quickly he accelerates into the ball - this is where "power" comes from. by Expert 02:42:46 Monday 25 April 2005
