Hello, I have a question about confidence. I believe that I am a skillful player and I enjoy the beautiful game yet I seem to only be able to play outside of an actual team. For instance, whenever I am put into a situation; I seem to lose all focus and thoughts of 'what NOT to do' enter my mind. I become so nervous (butterflies) that I forget my position etc. I cannot seem to 'play my game' as competitive soccer maybe does not suit my temperment, yet competitive soccer DOES suit my skill level... Any insight as to how I could overcome this unfortunate dilemma?
This is a common problem, that I've had as well. You are taking this too seriously no matter if you want to become a professional or not. You cannot take it too serious thats when negative thoughts enter your head. Enjoy the game like you said you do, when you become nervous you will realize that you dont want to play at that moment, just play up to your ability dont try to do anything extra thats what will kill you. Competitive soccer suits any skill level. Losing focus is one of the last things you want to lose. Well i dont know if you do but try not to practice by yourself because thats when you will learn your mistakes and it wont leave your head if your with your friends ask for help when you make a mistake they will help you, or a coach if hes nearby. Dont get me wrong you should practice by yourself but try to keep it at physical practice(running, working out). If your going to practice drills with the ball make sure your not alone it will help you much more when game time comes. by Expert 11:40:31 Friday 31 December 2004
