Hey, thanks for the great advice about my left footed kicking. Well I need more help. Im Hungarian and my dream is to go pro one day. I want to make my dad proud, since he didnt get the chance to be pro. I play foward, usually striker. My coach is expecting a lot from me for next season. He wants me to score goal and to produce, like being a decoy so the other team double teams me and stuff. The problem is I have never scored more than 10 goals in a season. I kind of get nervous sometimes when I get close to the goal. How can I make my production go up.
You are all more than welcome to post additional questions but please be patient if I don't answer right away. It is not that I don't want to, I just have been swamped by work and football.
Let me point out that you coach has given you somewhat of a contradictory task. It is one thing to play as a decoy attacker and attract enemy defenders while it is completely different to score goals on a consistent basis. I disagree with him about demanding of you to score regularly. Very few top-class strikers would be confident enough as to promise scoring in a particular match, regardless of their opposition. There are ways to increase your likelihood of scoring but still, statistical results shouldn't be on the mind of a striker. Instead of worrying about goals, try to make yourself useful to your team. As peculiar as it may sound, the first step in increasing your chances of scoring is by forgetting about goals and playing the way you are used to.
You will feel nervous as an attacker primarily due to lack of information. By lack of information I mean not being aware of the opposition and their intentions. When you are not in possession of the ball, look around and locate the nearest enemy defenders. This will give you feedback on where you can control the ball, how much time you have with it and so on. Scanning the field is especially important if you are playing with your back to the enemy goal.
Another factor which you need to accept as an attacker is physical contact. It is normal to get pushed around, especially for your position. The best way to respond is with the mentality of a boxer: aggressive, but never losing your cool! Don't be afraid about employing your body with protecting the ball. As you can see, being a successful attacker involves many factors apart from goal scoring. It is like building something, you don't concentrate on the final product but on the process of constructing it.
Good luck and please keep us updated on your progress!
