Power in your “kick” comes from making good contact with the ball and employing good technique.
Familiarize yourself with different techniques such as the instep drive and the inside curve.
In terms of technique, power can be produced by (1) retrieving the foot as far back as possible and (2) learning to strike through the ball. Power comes from quickness. Instead of swinging violently at the ball, concentrate on quick composed motion. Building up your legs through weightlifting, especially the quadriceps and hamstrings, is a good supplement to your training.
Making good contact with the ball is what determines the accuracy of your kick.
The only way you can improve it is through repetition. Follow this sequence:
1. Lock your eyes at the target
2. Lower them precisely along the desired trajectory of your kick
3. Begin your approach while keeping focus on the ball and maintaining it until you have finished your follow-through
Remember that timing is another important element of shooting. An unexpected kick can be very dangerous even if lacks some power or accuracy. by Expert 13:21:02 Monday 17 May 2004 |
