hi, I really like this section of your website, so keep it up! I was wondering, why is it important in soccer to have a strong core (abs/stomach)? could you tell me about some abdominal exercises besides sit-ups? thanks a lot |
Soccer is a very demanding sport that requires agility, speed and power.
It is important to have a well-developed body in general, not just ripped stomach and legs.
Well-rounded musculature not only makes you quicker and more powerful but it also decreases your chances of injury. Check out one of the previous questions called “What is the use of developing the upper body in sprinting/soccer” for more on this subject.
There are many alternatives to doing sit-ups. Most of them are based on the following exercise:
Get in you standard sit-up position: lie on your back with your feet together. Instead of lifting your upper body, raise your legs up without bending the knees. It is crucial that you keep your back flat on the floor so grab something over you head for support.
Notice that building up your abs can be done on a daily basis. In contrast, working on other muscle groups usually requires that you to dedicate a few days for recovery.
