You sweat, so you lose water. You use energy, so you lose water. When you lose water you dehydrate. You drink water to keep hydrated. Pretty obvious stuff really. When you dehydrate you don't perform, and you can get heat stroke. So you need water to get to high performance.

No, I don't think it deserves that. Yes, he should have elaborated more, but maybe he will come back and ask for more advice... It is a pretty strange topic though. And yes, obviously you do need water. But he was asking how it affects football. A lack of water can make you dehydrate and not perform anywhere near your best. Try not drinking it for a while and then tell me how you play.

If that wasn't enough, here you go.
This is what I'll add to my Maximizing Your Performance Guide: Water is a critical ingredient for the function of the body. Many people today know the importance of drinking water, but they don't drink enough. Water is key to conducting bioelectrical current from your brain to your body and back again. Just by drinking enough water, you will increase your concentration levels, you will be more physically coordinated, you will think more quickly, and you'll be more energized. Researchers have found that anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times more oxygen binds to your blood when your body is fully hydrated. This reduces stress, helps remove waste and toxins from the body, and is essential for proper lymphatic function. It is recommended that you drink at least one 10-ounce glass of water per day for every 30 pounds that you weigh; more if you are physically active. Add another glass for a glass of coffee or soft drink you have. "I wear tinted visor not to trick other players, but so hot girls in stands don't see me looking at them." -Alexander Ovechkin |

I don't think there is anything wrong with this topic at all. It's a legit question and I'm sure many people could find it useful. Just because we know we are supposed to drink water, doesn't mean everyone knows what it atcually does. |

I agree with J. Also, mufc21, you're a mod now, you can't be calling people's questions 'dumb'

Ah, no worries man, but it really is a legit question. He may know that water is a necessity, but he wants to why/what is does. Anyway, don't worry about it.

Water = Best drink in the world
It always quenches your thirst better than anything other drink. It has NO harmful ingredients (unless polluted, obviously). It is 100% natural and therefore better for your body than ANY other drink on the planet. Maybe that's why 70% of your body is water?

U know what makes the worlds best drink even better? adding a little sugar to it. mmmm. I don't if that hurts performance, but it sure tastes good. |
