Best player ever

 I won't sit here and discuss who the greatest player is; I'll rather make considerations
Observing what Pele did almost 40 years ago, evokes that players like Ronaldinho have actually brought around very little! Explanation - the level and execution of skills by Pele pretty much left nothing new to be done. He simply 'dehumanised' players with a tenacious concoction intelligence and intuition (I've seen him nutmeg a player before it happens). Showboating done nowadays only gets the attention because the majority of commentators have not visited a playground, and so sway viewers into believing that what they see now is fresh, and beyond human ability, but really it is not. Pele exceeded the potential of his time [look how long it was before a noteworthy successor (?) occurred}. With this, time had to catch up to him, to him, as history leaves tomorrow to be established. In conclusion, my main argument is simply what Ronaldinho et al do know should have been accomplished at least 20 years ago, however Pele was ahead of his prime (the characteristic which worked against Ronaldo), leaving behind him a path which if followed would easily proceed greatness "People can carry in their minds and act upon two contradictory ideas at one time, provided that these two contradictory ideas are kept far enough apart."  “We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.” — Anais Ni

pele is top scorer of all time scoring over 1200+ goals.
maradona took drugs and was found out when he played in a friendly against greece. in my opinion 1st:pele 2nd:cruyff 3rd:platini |

Here is a question to ponder: Do you think the dwarf was either: 1. Very unlucky to be caught the only time he took performance enhancing drugs 2. He very lucky that he was only caught using performancing enhancing drugs once in his career. For me, It is Zinedine Zidane.
OK start laughing and commenting saying Oh he was nothing when it comes to Pele and Maradonna, Blah, Blah, Blah But i have my own reasons. Please comment. A good footballer is always is a mystery, better one can solve it, but the best one is UNPREDICTABLE. |

Best player I've ever seen live is Zidane, but overall based on what I've seen I'd have to say Maradona. Other notable mentions would go to Romario, Ronaldo and Alan Shearer - best striker I've seen, although I am biased

1.His play, of course. 2.His contributions to the team 3.His influence on history and future Now, when it comes to first point,Zizou is nothing when it comes to pele and maradona. But when it comes to 2 and 3 point he dominates them all far and wide. A good footballer is always is a mystery, better one can solve it, but the best one is UNPREDICTABLE. |

Maradona may not have been the best team player, but if you consider the difference it would make to take him off of Argentina 1986 and 1990 or Napoli, you have to say that the those teams wouldn't be nothing compared to what they were. Influence on history? 2 WC finals, the hand of god, the WC's greatest ever goal, Napoli's first ever Scudetto (then a UEFA Cup and another Scudetto), and his failed drug test. Pele is the greatest sports hero that has ever lived. 3 WC victories (played in 2 finals, missed on with injury), on 2 of the greatest teams ever. His legacy is what an entire club's history is built around (Santos). He holds tons of records, and he brought soccer to the US. Pele's the most well known player ever to play the game. Also, Brazil's never lost a game when him and Garrincha are on the field together. BTW, Zidane's the best player I've ever seen live. I missed most of Ronaldo's glory days, who I think was better in his prime, but I saw Zizou's best and he's always been one of my favorite players. |

As much as I would love to say that Zidane is the best player ever, it is true that he has not had nearly the effect on history as either of those two players, regardless of Maradona's drug use. I would vote for Pele. And also I agree with you that Zidane or Ronaldo have been the best two players I've seen playing in my lifetime, although like you I missed out on much of Ronaldo's prime. When Pele played there was no offside so he scored more goals and yeah
he was good, and the only reason FIFA didn't make Cruyff as nr1 was because he never won a world cup, but he is probly one of the best. Cruyff, Maradona or Pele. And its not true that Pele invented more moves then Cruyff, Pele didn't invent one move at all, his father did. And Johan Cruyff didn't invent ''Cruyff turn'' it was actually Alfred Lyttelton but Cruyff completed it and named it after his name. And the one who invented total football wasn't Cruyff, but Ajax manager Rinus Michels witch was also named as coach of the century by fifa in 1999, Johan Cruyff was just the exponent. To me he is probly one of the best players of all time along side with Pele, Maradona and Beckenbauer. Cruijff was the most outstanding of them all and was widely seen as the natural successor to Pelé as the world's greatest player. As a player, Cruijff was known for his technical ability: his mesmeric ball skill, speed and acceleration, the ability to change direction at will and his tactical insights make him one of the most gifted footballers of all time. Strictly speaking, Cruijff played centre forward in this system. But he would drop deep to confuse his markers or suddenly move to the wing with devastating effect. No one had seen a centre forward like that before. People say Pele was not a human and that Maradona was a god with the ball, but don't forget Johan cruyff one of the best next to Maradona, Beckenbauer and Pele. Cruyff got also voted by IFFHS as European player of the century in 1999 ahead of Beckenbauer. During his career Cruijff also became a national phenomenon on account of his comments. Cruyff was a very smart player, probably knew more about the game then anyone else. He was very tactical and skilled. But Pele was such an all around player and had almost everything to perfection, no other player was that good in so many areas.

Am I the only one who couldn't care less about what previous players and managers have to say about other players and managers? They are all simply trying to be politically correct all the time, and let their allegiance to club and country skew their opinions.

Great posting here. I totally agree with most of the things you guys said. However, I don't think Zidane had anywhere near the same affect on football as Pele. I don't want to say he can't be put in the same category because he is a great player, but I think Pele is the next step. That's why he gets my vote for greatest of all time.
