What to film for a video resume

A possibly big chance has just popped up for me. My Mum works for a man, who's 19 yr old son has just received a scholarship for a football team, and he also has connections within that team. I'm not sure though what team/school it is, but he gave a ripped-out "perfect penalty" article from a magazine to my mum, to give to me, and he wants me to include me taking a penalty in the video compilation he wants me to make.
I'm guessing I should put more stuff in the compilation. I'll put in some juggling/freestyle to show some skill and flair, some slaloming through cones? shooting? Also, I have my first trial game next week, and I was thinking that it would be a good chance to get some game footage. The man's daughter is an IT worker or something, and he was going to give the footage to her, and she was going to edit and glamor it up a bit ready to give to the head coach or something idk. ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |

Lots of game tape! Shooting, drills, and juggling aren't really needed they'll want to see game tape, game situations most of all.
Get as much footage as you can. Full game tape is best, don't edit it too much, coaches want to see your mistakes. Highlight tapes make everyone seem perfect which we know is not the case. Also full game tape allows the coaches to see what you are doing off the ball, if you are getting in good positions. Now I know you'll probably put music on it but think about your audience when you do this! Don't use a song with bad lyrics, curse words, etc. IMHO don't use music at all, most coaches will mute it anyway. |

ive been to several college coach forums and most all of them have said to not send fumm game tapes. they say its too long and they dont really have enough time to watch a full games with all the emails/tapes they get on a daily basis. So theres a chance you wont be seen.
probably the best thing would be an honest highlight real showing if you make mistakes how you recover from them (winnning the ball back and stuff) and as far as music apparantly its different for every coach, some like it some dont hope this helps |

Thanks guys! I'm not going to be able to show a whole game anyway I don't think, as I don't have a really good video camera (or at least one capable of filming a whole game). I'm really good at slaloms, I really feel that I should put a clip of me doing some cone drills though.

Now that I think about it I think at maximum a 10 minute film is best. Try to get a lot of games taped if possible so you have a variety to things to choose from to put in your film.
If you want to put drills in do it at the end or the beginning don't interrupt the game footage with footage of skills and then go back to game tape. I'd say if you do something like a 5-10 minute film reserve most of it for game highlights and maybe 1-2 minutes for a few drills. Here is an example of a college senior's highlight tape from his college games. He ended up getting multiple trials in Sweden...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvdiXc543wk Notice how far the camera is from the field, its not too far away or too close just the right amount so you can see pretty much everything. I don't know what your position is but if your a striker don't focus on film where you scored, def. show assists, good passes, etc. |

Thanks Well this is where I get lucky again, because the man, who my mum works for, well his daughter is an IT (computer) worker and she is going to make it look good. So I've just got to borrow a friend and a camera to film. ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |

Not sure, but I'll certainly ask, he might have been in there since he was 14/15 yrs old, I don't see my mum's employers much though so I'm not sure. ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |
