GI In Sports Drinks

Hey guys, just one question that hopefully someone has some knowledge about: how does the high GI in isotonic sports drinks not trigger a 'crash' in energy/blood sugar levels, I don't understand how they can deliver sustained energy, unless the energy is meant to come in a hit, and drop later?
Cheers, desire. ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |

Well when you play sports you sweat and therefore you lose water along with a few minerals and obviously, sugar. The High GI is to replenish those blood sugar levels as quick as possible. That's what a High GI means, the time it takes for the food to get absorbed into into the bloodstream. ( For example you want foods in low GI in the morning so you get energy released slowly and over a long period).
You won't 'crash' because you are trying to get back to normal levels from less. Whereas when you crash, it's when you have higher than normal levels, muscles burning that up, you can't sit still, liver is working hard to get rid of it because it's toxic above certain levels and therefore suddenly, all that massive amounts of energy is no longer being produced, thereby crashing. Your body now wants you to return to normal behaviour, so calming down. Sometimes it overshoots, making the crash even more dramatic but blood sugar levels are in a range, up and down like a wave It's how I understand anyway. |
