Speed Dribbling-Cutting

I have been practicing speed dribbling for awhile now, and everytime i practice it i always just do it in a straight line. However i have realized i probably shouldn't have done this. I have noticed in my play that when i am running at someone i can speed dribble very well, but when it comes to the point where i need to cut away, the ball is moving to fast and just slides past my foot. Therefor making my speed dribbling rather useless lol. So would be the best way to approach this is just set up 3 or 4 targets 20 yards or some away from eachother and just go at them and practice that cutting motion, or should i just go into a field with a ball, and start speed dribbling swaying my body from left to right and use my outside inside and laces of the foot without the cones?

Tell me, in a match, do you play against cones or humans?
Play more matches. If you can't, do things that you can transfer very easily onto a pitch. Shooting, passing, recieving. Dribbling, just depends on the situation. For example, I think dribbling is like learning the car. You can learn the controls and stuff in a car park (the skill / trick ), but the majority of the time you spend reacting to other drivers on the road (dealing with your team mates and your opponents positions). I've found you can't stay one paced. Even if you are quicker, you need to push the ball pretty far out and because you are going at full pelt, so is the ball. So you are slowing down to cut, but the ball hasn't. try this on for size. Try speeding towards the cone, use the outside of the foot to slow the ball down, also make it look like you are going that side, and imagine you sucker the defender in so he's close to you, you cut and explode past. You need to experiment with the distances between you and the defender. Too far, and he'll just come across you, too close and he gets the ball. So to recap, cone 30 yards away, sprint to it, 10 yards away, star slowing down, use the outside of the foot to slow down and make it look like you are going that side, 5ish yards away, cut and accelarate past. Helped? |

ye i feel you, i never tend to slow down this may be the problem, so i should be slowing down to like a 60-70% pace? Also, i don't have humans to practice on man there is no pick up games or anything all i have is practice and games, and when i do it in practice and games and mess it up my coach just gets pissed at me so its not worth it

Mate, you need experience dribbling in games. You play as a winger right? You want to be pro? You can't just hope that once you get to a pro team, you will suddenly learn how to dribble in games. You need experience, and if you won't do it because your afraid your coach will tell you off, then how do you a) expect to cope when thousands of fans shout when something goes wrong, and b) how do you expect clubs to become intrested? No club is going to want to spend money on a winger (correct me if i'm wrong) who can't dribble in games. So, well...I think it probably is worth it. Sorry if i'm being harsh but it's my honest opinion, so I hope you take this constructively. |

yes i know you said to use things larger than cones, im going to try and use those pyramid looking cones those are a little bigger, and im going to put more than 1 down so ill put like 4 down next to eachother to make it wider, other than that im not sure what to use that is bigger and mobile enough for me to bring to a field

Depends on how far the walk is. If your mum is nice (unlike mine) she'll drop you off at the field maybe? Get some agility poles! ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |

Well everything is these days - http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/Products ... 20793.aspx
^ I think that's priced for each pole individually, it really depends on your budget. It might not be any different at your local sport shop, plus you won't have to pay any shipping. ![]() Everything you need, is already inside. |

Yeah get yourself some of those poles. If you can't afford it just use anthing dude, i know you may look strange but seriously, the taller, more oddly shaped obstacle the better IMO.
if you have a trampoline, when you take it apart, use the legs from it, they go up to about your hip and work well |

just curious do any of you guys have a similar way of dribbling as Di Maria does in this video at the 1:16 mark, it seems to be very effective and he does a nice series of cuts.

This is a lot like my style, I find it comes naturally from playing loads of pick-up games like I use to (in small areas). If I'm not throwing in a step-over and exploding, I find that this comes instinctively for me at times.
