Trequartista, the second striker

Met

I was looking around for definition, positional and responsibility wise of this position and I'm kind of stumped. It's a position that I want to know more about because I think I would best suited for. I would probably like to discuss the position with the manager to perhaps give me a few games in it to see how I fair.

In my opinion, the second striker, isn't really a striker. It's a position that's neither attack nor midfield. The player can be a playmaker and floats between midfield and attack. If the defence is having problems passing the ball, he drops in that deep to play a one two with the midfield to move the attack up. It's a position that's hard to defend against because it isn't actually a position. You usually have an SS if you feel the midfield needs to be more defense meaning the link between attack and midfield isn't really there or isn't as good. The SS is as good as scoring as creating opportunities. It's usual for them to start the move off and finish it.

The player I have in mind is Messi. When Xavi isn't there, it's noticable that he goes to get the ball off Pique/Puyol. Another is Rooney when there is a forward with him. Sneijder maybe?

You agree or disagree? Anything more to add?

You are largely correct. The second striker usually does not seek to score a lot of goals, nor does he play midfield in the strictest sense. He is a playmaker, and creates opportunities for the strikers through his work, and may feed them the ball.
