definitely should be a starting player.... |
Rot. He may be having a few good spurts now, but his underachieving ass deserved all it got in the past few years. He was basically living off his reputation from '99, doing shit all with Newcastle and getting injured until Manchester picked him up. I think it's a question of his motivation and character, that he wouldn't perform with Newcastle, but yet, somehow, he woke up just a tad for Manchester. He should be able to play well wherever.

Sorry, I'll re-clarify.
In his heyday, he was amazing. Certainly up there in conversations of most exciting or most influential to team. People gave him lots of props, and he deserved each and every one.
Then, let's say from a period of '00-'08, he began to suck. He still started and got England call-ups 1)based off his old reputation as a feared striker and 2) because he played for Newcastle. At such a point, some people still lauded him, but others knew he was past his prime.
Now, today. He (apparently) is back to old form, at least for a few games. People recognize he's an okay player, and rate him as such. That is the rating he deserves. For those who think he is the same Owen now as he was 10 years ago, they are overrating him. But in no way is he underrated.

Juice, I completely agree with you on the Stephen Ireland thing. It's sad to not see him start on Man city this year. It really pains me because he was so magical last year. Like you said, he rarely made mistakes, and was an extremely reliable player on the ball. I remember watching him for man city in one of there first games last year and seeing Ireland (who i didnt know who he was) and was impressed. I have since followed him and man, what a smart player. He has great vision.
Ok im done now, but he is one player that is underrated....IMMENSLY. One of the better midfielders in the premiereship

Lassana. Watching him play for madrid, i cant believe he was just let go by chelsea and arsenal.
Pires. He is brilliant for villareal. An attacking mastermind. He runs the whole attack.

I'am not sure about that one but Adrian Mutu ? He stills pays good football for fiorentina , i remember last year when the were 3-0 or 3-1 down and he scored a hat-trick to win the match. I think he's underrated because of the cocaine and chelsea scandal.

this sounds weird but david beckham. sure he's always going to have his super fans who love him but the rest of the world seems to have taken his age and forgotten all that he can do. sure he's not a typical super fast winger but he's still easily the best dead ball specialist and has his crossing still there.

yea nick117...I actually agree with you on that. Most of my friends think he is garbage and say he is nothing more than a free kick specialist.
But...he is much more than that. He has great long balls, free kicks, and crossing. great stamina and quality vision. People gotta look past his "superstar" identity.
Another underrated player is seedorf. I think everyone knows he is quality, but he doesn't get that top player attention he should. such an amazing player really.
