It has always been my opinion that Pele's superior athleticism is what put him over Maradona. If you look at Pele, he's clearly the dominant athlete and because of that, he could make some plays that Maradona couldn't.
I was just looking over some highlights from back in the day and while skillwise, the defenders were more advanced in Maradona's days, the technique back in Pele's day looked to be kick him until he's down, and then kick him some more. He took some pretty vicious hits to the leg but he still stayed up to score. Maradona didn't really have to deal with things like that in his day on a consistent basis.

Yehhhhh thats true, but athletically, i think maradona is much quicker than pele, he could go from 0 to 100 in 2 secs, they both had great fitnes, and incredible strength, just look at maradonas thighs, so i disagree in the athletical part, yet agree that pele played in a much more physical time, but that isnt really football, its more like ragby .. Pele by dribbling, and shooting so much contributed to the evolution of football i gues s

Have you ever actually watched Pele? He was such an amazing athlete. Far superior than Maradona. Pele was built like a modern day athlete. While Maradona was not always fat, you can't really say he was built like an amazing athlete. He was somewhat husky or pudgy pretty much throughout his career. I'm not taking anything away from Maradona because I believe he was a close second but Pele's superior athleticism puts him over the top.

yeh lol like how C.Ronaldo is better then Messi or Gerrard is better then Iniesta just because of their athleticism

pretty sure I made no mention to any of those players, just Pele and Maradona.
Go away.

Same here. Stop picking on every post I make. It gets annoying in a while.

he didn't pick at it he showed where there were flaws get some thicker skin and makin a valid point and there wouldn't of been an issue.

Lol yeh right the guy usually just gets personal once he runs out of arguments.

He was saying that Pele's athleticism made him a better player, and I used the Messi Ronaldo or Iniesta Gerrard comparison to prove that technique matters more then athleticsim. And Maradona's technique was better then Pele, thus making him better player overall.

Disagree with post..no need to make an argument..just tell user to piss off..ahh, the pleasures of being a mod...and I thought I was supposed to be the one making non valid points...

He never said that Pele was a better player because of his athleticism, he said, that's what made the difference between Pele and MAradona, because technically they were both amazing.

And the comparison between Ronaldo and Messi is ridiculous, they both are fantastic athletes......

Jesus christ guys, shut up. This thread isn't a personal war. Plus, what the hell is the need for ALL those page stretching quotes. Going back two or three should be sufficient.

Back to topic, please.

Well the simplest way to answer that question is.......he is revered as a god in argentina. El D10S, as they call him, is quite a convenient pun.

yeah pretty much if he wasn't a god of a player he wouldn't really be there still. maybe they should hire him as a technical coach for footwork Very Happy. well thats more of a club thing but eh.

Maradona is going to court or be in an audience this sunday, if he is found guilty of breaking a fifa code, for his agressive commentaries after the Uruguay-Argentina game, he will be suspended for 5 games, probably meaning he wont be coach anymore!

I agree with Mint. He needs to learn that telling everybody to suck it is still wrong no matter if he's a coach or not. Although it was pretty funny xD. That being said I hope he gets sacked.

that makes 2 of us, not because i have anything against him, just because any person with an 80 of IQ knows that Argentinas chances of making it to the last 16 with him are the same of it to rain in the sahara.

now thats a relief, under a football coach, messi can show the argies he is a true number 10 like he is at Barca, where he is not restricted to the wing anymore.
