step over?

i am asking myself if my step over is right or effective i dont stretch my leg too much and i dont shift my weight but i do it with great speed my foot so close to the ground and around the ball and so close to the ball with so small circles is it right?? if not how i shift my weight during it and if i steretched my leg and make big circles around the ball it will give more oppurtunity for deffender to take the ball and it will be much slower please answer if anyone knows thanks

In amateur and rec leagues defenders may become flustered by your foot speed, but even a slightly experienced defender will be able to contain you if you don't use your body to fake them out. At a club/high school/collegiate level you definitely won't be faking anyone out.

I know that doesn't really answer your questions, but I'm just making a statement.

You should start your stepovers slowly then gradually get faster, stepovers are a bit like dancing over the ball, stepovers get more easier the more you practice doing it.

Thats true, you cant just do the move with your feet, you have to throw your body into it and feint if you want to trick the defender. Also, you cant just practise the stepover over and over again, you have to go out there and practise all of your tricks randomly so you become instinctive. Hpoe that helps in some way.

(Also, no offence, Rominho, but your first post is a bit confusing, to me, Its a bit hard to understand what you mean.)

Speed isn't the real important thing for step overs like said before, it's how well you fake it. You should definitely throw ur body into it, do a bigger circle only when you are gonna cut. if you have fast feet u should be able to get ur foot to the ball before the defender even if you're doing them at a slower pace.

thanks for replies but do i have to stretch my leg during making it or can i make it with my knees bent and last question how i shift my weight so quick to confuse the defender? and i remembered other thing that when i tried to stretch my leg while doing it like c.ronaldo it didnt go around the ball well

It's true, stepovers are all about body fakes and sending the man the wrong way. If you are impressed with your own foot speed, the next step is to work in head bobs and shoulder dips to the opposite side you will be going. Once you see him second guess, or move to that one side, explode the other way.

The best of defenders will be watching your waist. That means the best of fakes will use your whole body, starting from the waist. Try that sometime, when you have the other parts down pat. Maybe practice in front of a mirror.

You needn't worry about stretching your legs, that is a minor part of the stepover. Of course, stretch to avoid injury, but flexibility has little to do with a good stepover. It is all the above.
