Every Friday A bunch of college kids gather to play Soccer in a university, me and my friend play with them. Today i got beat real bad by a guy from africa, he had speed and agility. I could keep up with him in terms of speed but i couldnt predcit what move was going to come out next. I really need help like what to do when a fast person does sudden stops and stuff like that, since he is real fast i cannot get to the ball.

My fren, first thing first. Jockey the guy to the sideline. He will have no choice but to pass unless he does a flick which Jay-Jay Okocha always do. To tackle this guy, U will have to have a teammate to cover Ur back. Should he push the ball past U, Ur teammate can clear the ball. U will have to be extra-calculative before lunging a tackle on him. Keep Ur body low, legs wide (dun get nutmegged) and Ur body facing him. The only tackle I can advise is the toe-poke.

you know what? if u can keep up with his speed always cut in front of him this way he's bound to go slower or loose the ball try some distractions and then bust ur move Idea

I've learned that a faint tackle works (don't actually go for the ball, but fake like your going to make a move) by moving your shoulders and front foot forward a little. Back up and wait for the oppurtunity to make a clean tackle. Keep him pushed outside away from the goal and once he trys to beat you, if he's close than make a hard shoulder tackle. If he slips away you better get down for a slide tackle. Just don't dive in on him and you should take him. Defense requires more brains than it seems. I can take most forwards in my state just because I think before the play happens and I'm ready for any of his tricks.

well man first of all u should always keep ur distance with fast players. dont just try taking the ball with no aim and assurance that u are gonna get da ball, because fast players like dat can juke u so easy Wink

if ure as fast as him...
put urself in his shoes. ure fast, and there is a defender almost as fast as you.

u dribble with the ball, and he catches up with you. what would u do? at some point of the dribble, u would stop and make a turn. if u do enough dribblings, there is a specific timing in which dribblers stop and turn. i call this the beat.

u should really observe his moves, his fav moves and turns, his fav place to dribble, how many touches he does before releasing the ball.

I find its best if you give faster people 2-3 yards cushion. if they goto run down your side you have time to drop and tackle them. Remember to stay between him and the goal if your the last defender. If your not the last defender try to force a turnover by tackle. Its very hard to take the ball from a skilled player without a good tackle. Please, remember to keep your tackles clean. If you can help it don't even take the guy out, just steal the ball.

If it wasn't for the other guy playing who would you play with?

Turnovers make you or break you.

Watch what the pro defenders do The leave 2-3 yards and force pleyer to pass it off or go to the corner.

Watch out in the corner because alot of guys will kick the ball at you and bouce it off of you for the corner kick. Some will do this for a throw in. If you leave the 2-3 yards gap this move is really unusable.

If they are coming down the middle with a head of steam. break off, and sprint further up the feild and get infront. Most of the time you'll be faster than the man dribbling the ball. From there I would try to stall for backup.

This is the best advice I can give.

If it's just a kick-about with friends, there is something you could try to make him less effective. If he's only good with 1 foot, always concentrate on defending that side of him. You will be showing him the other way onto his weaker foot but if he really favours the other one, he'll think about it. If he can't beat you for pace then there is no need to dive in to make the challenge. Stand him up and wait for him to move.

If it's a serious game, make sure you kick him really hard as soon as possible in the game. It would be good if it was a fair challenge but if you give away 1 foul, it's not a problem. Then as he's getting up, quietly tell him that's what will happen every time he tries to go past you (it's probably best the ref doesn't hear that bit). With luck, the ref won't do anything and he'll be worried about getting kicked again.

mmmm fast players...
i always give them a bit of space and approach them from some weird angle, from which i can follow them if they run past me (which is rare Twisted Evil )...
i like what ratherton said... here i can use modified chinese proverb:
"tackle on the ball once, you've stopped him for one strike, tackle on his feet, you've stopped him for the whole game" Laughing
don't let him play with you...
but i have one bad side when i play against players like this... if he goes past me accidentally, next time when i have the ball i try to do some great trick on him and to make him a jackass... i know that this is a bad thing, since i'm LB and CB,but what can i do...

my best advice wuld b to contain contain contain. if u go for the ball he will prob. juke the mess out of u. square him up to his weak side (if he doesnt have a weak side choose one) if u get beat then stay on his side until u think hes going to shoot and the out of nowhere pop your foot right into his shot path. Laughing

Football may be a contact sport, but I hate players like that. It's one thng if you genuinely go for the ball hard, and miss - But deliberately crunching a player without caring if you take the ball or not is bang out of order.

Mind you, as a winger... I'm usually the one getting clattered, so I'm a bit biased!! Rolling Eyes

Like it or not, the higher the level of football, the tougher you will need to be. If you are the winger getting kicked, you have to learn not to be intimidated by a defender kicking you. The reason he is doing that is because he knows you are struggling to defend against him.

90% of football is played in the mind.

with fast players its a good idea to do a zig zag down the field with them. cut them off at angles and keep doing it. it usally always works for me
