Team Sweden at Euro 2004

26 June :: Holland - Sweden 0-0 (5-4)
Holland moved into the semi-finals of Euro 2004 after claiming their first ever penalty shoot-out victory in a major tournament after a 0-0 draw with Sweden in Faro-Loulé.Both Holland and Sweden played offensive football except that the Swedes constructed their attacks with speed while the Dutch concentrated on buildup.The game was fairly even and apart from a number of narrow misses neither side deserved to win after the first 90 minutes.By the end of the match and during overtime, Sweden looked tired but barely held off the final 0-0.In the penalty shootout, Ibrahimovic and Mellberg missed for Sweden while only Cocu was inaccurate for the Dutch.

22 June :: Sweden - Denmark 2-2
Sweden and Denmark finished with a 2-2 draw in their last encounter of Group C of the 2004 Euro championship.This promiscuous result assured the advancement of both nations requiring Italy to beat Bulgaria with more than three goals.The actual match between the two Scandinavian nations was exciting and seemed far from deliberate.Jon Dahl Tomasson had two brilliant goals while Henrik Larsson converted a penalty and Mattias Jonson scored the equalizer for the final 2-2.

18 June :: Sweden - Italy 1-1
Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by Sweden in a pulsating Euro 2004 Group C match here on Friday. A cheeky back-heeled goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic five minutes from time salvaged a point for the Swedes after Antonio Cassano's first-half header had given Italy the lead. At this point, Sweden top the group on goal difference even though they and Denmark have four points from two matches, while Italy are third with two points.

14 June :: Bulgaria - Sweden 0-5
Bulgaria suffered a humiliating 5-0 loss to Sweden last Monday.The match started off evenly and the Bulgarians eventually assumed control of the ball.Sweden pulled back relying on fast counter attacks.After one turnover, the disorganized Bulgarian defense paid for its lack of cohesion in the 37th minute.Bulgaria fought back by dominating the possession but were reluctant to capitalize or do anything dangerous with it.By the second half, Sweden's persistent counters became too much for the Bulgarian defense that slipped two quick consecutive goals.This disheartened the Bulgarian squad causing an outpour of goals for Sweden.

The Swedish national team

Overview
Sweden have impressed with their 2002 World Cup run. Will Sweden's physical style of play work against familiar opponents Denmark and Bulgaria or topple the skilled Italians?
