20 June :: Portugal - Spain 1-0
Portugal went through to the quarterfinals after beating Spain 1-0.This encounter was always set to be a heated affair as the local rivals went head to head, but the situation in Group A made it even more dramatic. Portugal would only qualify if they won this game - a result that would eliminate Spain.Spain stared out cautiously trying to maintain control of the game.Their defensive efforts were feeble and Ronaldo and Deco frequently threatened the Spanish goal. Half-time substitute Gomes turned superbly to strike from 20 yards and give Portugal their first win over Spain since 1981.

16 June :: Spain - Greece 1-1
Spain played an extremely entertaining game but failed to cut short Greece's persistent run at Euro 2004.The Greeks defended in numbers while waiting to counter.In the 28th minute Morientes opened the score when Mihalis Kapsis lost possession.Greece came back in the 66th minute with a beautiful equalizer from Charisteas.

12 June :: Russia - Spain 0-1
Spain took their first three points of the tournament by defeating Russia 1-0. The game started off with a lot of energy but eventually settled down. As expected, Spain were dominating the possession while the Russians were trying to interrupt their fluency. Substitute Juan Carlos Valerón scored with his first touch of the game in the 60th minute. After the goal, Russia had to open up allowing chances for Raúl and Vicente. The Russians only managed to produce a red card as Roman Sharonov took down Torres late in the match.
